This snow-white steamed rice cake is round as a full moon, soft and springy, and scattered with candied green and red threads like twin rainbows fallen across snow. Hence the name "Moonlit Splendor." Lightly sweet and dense on the tongue, the fragrance of rice and sugar from it melts slowly between the teeth.
This confection is created by the wife of Jingran's Shifu, Granny Yanshu, and is his favorite. His little sister always says the cake is sickly sweet. Jingran disagrees, and every time he cups one in his hands and bites down, the satisfaction shows in his whole face.
