Background Description
Steamed from a base of rice milk, these snow-white sponge cakes are shaped like a full moon, earning them the name "Little Snowy Moons." Soft and sweet, the pastry also goes by alternative names such as "Jade Plate" or "Water Moon Bun."
During Mengzhou's annual Waking Moon Festival, it has long been a tradition for every household to prepare these cakes in welcome of the rising moon. Soldiers stationed far from home in Xuanfang carried this custom with them, hoping that even if the same moon doesn't shine over both lands, their hearts might still meet in this shared moment of reunion.
