Background Description
Foxtail Kelp is entirely edible. Its long, fragile stems often break off and drift to the shore, looking like lost walking sticks or pipes.
The Roya call it the "Traveler’s Staff." For lost travelers trapped in caves, it can serve as a reliable source of food until they reach safety. Children also play with the stems, sparring with one another to see whose kelp lasts the longest.
